Research Methods - Blizzard Tricks on I-80
Snowdrifts on roadways are the obvious hazard, but poor visibility and pavement icing are also in the blizzard's bag of tricks for travelers. Road cuts in the rolling foothills of the Medicine Bow mountains quickly fill with snowdrifts. Around-the-clock snow removal often could not match the blizzards, forcing frequent road closure during the first winter for this section of I-80.
