Wyoming Monthly Climatology
February 2005

Statewide Summary

Graphs show that during the month of February, temperatures ranged from above normal east of the Continental Divide to below normal over portions of southwestern Wyoming. Precipitation was general well below normal over much of the state except for the extreme southwest Wyoming and northern Bighorn Basin. Soil moisture showed little change in February, with driest conditions persisting over northeastern Wyoming. Mountain snowpack was well below normal over northern Wyoming while elsewhere, conditions were near to slightly above normal. At the end of February, average snowpack was 80%, down 10% from Feb 28, 2004. Streamflow was somewhat below normal over nearly half the state.

Cheyenne

The average temperature in February was 32.7°F. This is 3.9°F warmer than normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 56°F on the 4th and the minimum of 8°F occurred on the 16th. Precipitation total of 0.34 inch is 77% of normal. Snowfall totaled 4.4 inches which is 64% of the long term average.

    Laramie

    The average temperature in February was 25.2°F. This is 1.8°F warmer than normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 48°F on the 4th and 11th and the minimum for the month was -7°F occurring on the 16th. Precipitation total of 0.12 inch is 26% of normal. Snowfall totaled 4.5 inches which is 79% of the long term average.

    Rawlins

    The average temperature in February was 27.1°F. This is 1.0°F warmer than normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 44°F on the 25th and the minimum for the month was 4°F occurring on the 15th, 16th, and 18th. Precipitation total of 0.18 inch is 35% of normal. Much of the month's precipitation fell on the 14th (0.10 inch). Snowfall totaled 3.3 inches which is 44% of the long term average.

    Rock Springs

    The average temperature in February was 24.0°F. This is 1.3°F warmer than normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 40°F on the 24th, 25th, and 28th and the minimum for the month was -4°F occurring on the 16th. Precipitation total of 0.15 inch is 29% of normal. Snowfall totaled 2.0 inches which is 35% of the long term average.

    Evanston

    The average temperature in February was 22.0°F. This is 0.9°F cooler than normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 39°F on the 4th and the minimum for the month was 0°F occurring on the 17th. Precipitation total of 0.39 inch is 63% of normal. Snowfall totaled 7.8 inches which is 80% of the long term average.

    Big Piney

    The average temperature in February was 7.1°F. This is 7.6°F cooler than normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 33°F on the 13th and 14th and the minimum for the month was -25°F occurring on the 17th. During the month, only 5 days had minimum temperatures above 0°F. Precipitation total of 0.40 inch is 118% of normal and represents. Snowfall totaled 6.9 inches which is 164% of the long term average.

    Lander

    The average temperature in February was 30.3°F. This is 4.7°F warmer than normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 51°F on the 21st and 26th and the minimum for the month was 7°F occurring on the 8th. Precipitation total of 0.05 inch is 9% of normal and and represents the 3rd driest February since 1949. Snowfall totaled 0.5 inch which is 4% of the long term average and represents the 3rd least snowiest February on record.

    Riverton

    The average temperature in February was 30.4°F. This is 8.3°F warmer than normal and represents the 5th warmest February (tied) since records began in 1919. The maximum temperature for the month was 53°F on the 13th and the minimum for the month of 6°F occurred on the 17th. Precipitation total of only 0.01 inch is 4% of normal and represents the 2nd driest February on record. Snowfall totaled 0.3 inch which is 7% of the long term average and represents the 2nd least snowiest February on record.

    Worland

    The average temperature in February was 28.6°F. This is 2.6°F warmer than normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 62°F on the 4th (record for the day) and the minimum for the month of -6°F occurred on the 8th. Other record highs occurred on the 3rd (59°F) and 11th (54°F) (since 1961). Precipitation total of 0.08 inch is 30% of normal. Snowfall totaled 1.2 inches which is 38% of the long term average.

    Sheridan (February 17th 1.05 inches appears never to have occurred)

    The average temperature in February was 31.2°F. This is 4.3°F warmer than normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 71°F on the 4th (record for the day) and the minimum for the month of -7°F occurred on the 8th. Other record highs occurred on the 2nd (57°F - tied) and 3rd (67°F). Precipitation total of 0.20 inch is 35% of normal. Snowfall totaled 5.1 inches which is 50% of the long term average.

    Casper

    The average temperature in February was 32.2°F. This is 5.5°F warmer than normal and represents the 9th warmest February on record. The maximum temperature for the month was 55°F on the 26th and the minimum for the month of 5°F occurred on the 16th. Ten days reached 50°F or higher during the month. Precipitation total of 0.13 inch is 20% of normal and represents the driest February on record. Snowfall totaled 0.7 inch which is 7% of the long term average.

    Douglas

    The average temperature in February was 32.6°F. This is 4.3°F warmer than normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 60°F on the 4th and the minimum for the month of 4°F occurred on the 16th. Precipitation total of 0.14 inch is 33% of normal.

    Torrington

    The average temperature in February was 34.7°F. This is 4.7°F warmer than normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 62°F on the 4th and the minimum for the month of 8°F occurred on the 16th. Precipitation total of 0.07 inch is 18% of normal. Snowfall totaled 2.0 inches which is 41% of the long term average.
