Wyoming Monthly Climatology
July 2005

Statewide Summary

Graphs show that during the month of July, temperatures ranged above normal over most of Wyoming except for much above normal readings over the northeast, southeast, and southwest corners of the state. Precipitation was general below normal over most of the state except for some above normal totals over the interior of Wyoming. Modeled soil moisture showed no significant worsening of conditions across the Wyoming Rockies. The latest Drought Monitor map shows only slight worsening conditions over south central and southeastern Wyoming.

Pasturelands (by area) worsened 13% during the month. Good to excellent rating was 53% while poor to very poor was 17% by month's end. The end of July streamflow (7-day average) was near or above normal for most stations with the exception of below normal readings over northern Wyoming. Overall, the drought monitor map shows slight worsening drought since last month over south central and southeast Wyoming.

Weather Summary: For the week ending Friday, July 8th, temperatures ranged from 1.3°F below normal in Jackson to 3.9°F above normal in Evanston. The high temperature was 103°F in Sundance and the low was 31°F in Jackson. More dry conditions continue. Archer had the most precipitation with 0.26 inches followed by Newcastle with 0.21 inches and Torrington with 0.19 inches.

Weather Summary: For the week ending Friday, July 15th, temperatures ranged from 3.6°F above normal in Worland to 9.2°F above normal in Sundance. The high temperature was 107°F in Sheridan and the low was 35°F in Jackson. Hot temperatures and little precipitation continued. Cheyenne had the most precipitation with 0.59 inches followed by Wheatland with 0.36 inches and Jackson with 0.30 inches.

Weather Summary: For the week ending Friday, July 22th, temperatures ranged from 2.2°F above normal in Worland to 7.7°F above normal in Big Piney. The high temperature was 106°F in both Dillinger and Newcastle and the low was 33°F in Jackson. Most locations had high's approaching or exceeding 100°F. Measurable precipitation was reported only in Archer with 0.50 inches, Cheyenne with 0.16 inches, and Afton with 0.06 inches.

Weather Summary: For the week ending Friday, July 29th, temperatures ranged from 2.4°F above normal in Saratoga to 3.6°F below normal in Casper. The high temperature was 103°F in both Torrington and Wheatland and the low was 31°F in Jackson. Eastern Wyoming received mostly above normal precipitation. Torrington reported the most precipitation with 2.21 inches, Newcastle reported 1.83 inches, 1.33 inches in Casper, and 1.23 inches in Douglas.

Cheyenne

The average temperature in July was 71.8°F. This is 4.1°F warmer than normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 98°F on the 20th and the minimum of 47°F occurred on the 4th. A record high of 96°F was set on the 22nd. Precipitation total of 2.59 inches is 115% of normal. The wettest day in the was on the 15th (0.81 inch fell).

    Laramie

    The average temperature in July was 66.5°F. This is 3.3°F warmer than normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 93°F on the 22nd (record for the day) and the minimum of 39°F occurred on the 4th. Another record high occurred on the 16th of 91°F. Precipitation total of 0.97 inch is 62% of normal. The wettest day in the was on the 23rd (0.49 inch fell).

    Rawlins

    The average temperature in July was 69.7°F. This is 1.8°F warmer than normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 97°F on the 16th and 22nd (records for the day) and the minimum for the month was 39°F occurring on the 4th. Another record high of 92°F was tied on the 29th. Precipitation total of 0.43 inch is 48% of normal. The wettest day in the was on the 23rd (0.28 inch fell).

    Rock Springs

    The average temperature in July was 70.7°F. This is 3.9°F warmer than normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 96°F on the 13th and the minimum for the month was 45°F occurring on the 4th. A record high was set on the 16th (95°F). Precipitation total of 0.11 inch is 12% of normal. The wettest day in the was on the 23rd (0.07 inch fell).

    Evanston

    The average temperature in July was 68.2°F. This is 5.8°F warmer than normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 92°F on the 13th and the minimum for the month was 42°F occurring on the 18th. Precipitation total of 0.06 inches is 7% of normal.

    Lander

    The average temperature in July was 74.1°F. This is 3.2°F warmer than normal.     The average temperature in July was 74.6°F. This is 4.3°F warmer than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 102°F on the 13th (record for the day) and the minimum for the month of 46°F occurred on the 27th. Other record highs of 94°F (7th), 97°F (9th), 99°F (15th), 101°F (16th), 99°F (20th), 96°F (21st), and 100°F (22nd) occurred. Precipitation total of 0.19 inch is 26% of normal.

    Worland

    The average temperature in July was 73.9°F. This is 0.2°F warmer than normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 106°F on the 13th (record for the day and 2nd highest daily temperature) and the minimum for the month of 47°F occurred on the 27th. Precipitation total of 0.16 inch is 23% of normal. The wettest day in the was on the 31st (0.08 inch fell).

    Sheridan

    The average temperature in July was 72.0°F. This is 3.2°F Warmer than normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 107°F on the 13th (tied for the all-time highest temperature with 14 July 2002) and the minimum for the month of 43°F occurred on the 4th.     Casper

    The average temperature in July was 72.6°F. This is 2.6°F warmer than normal. The maximum temperature for the month was 104°F on the 16th (record for the day and tied its highest temperature ever which occurred on 12 July 1954) and the minimum for the month of 44°F occurred on the 18th. Other record highs included 99°F (9th), 103°F (13th), 99°F (20th), and 103°F (22nd). Precipitation total of 1.32 inches is 102% of normal. A flash flood event occurred on the 26th.

    Douglas

    The average temperature in July was 73.5°F. This is 3.2°F warmer than normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 105°F on the 16th (record for the day) and the minimum for the month of 45°F occurred on the 18th. Precipitation total of 0.92 inch is 59% of normal. The wettest day in the was on the 25th (0.90 inch fell, nearly the month's total).

    Torrington

    The average temperature in July was 75.2°F. This is 3.2°F warmer than normal for the month. The maximum temperature for the month was 104°F on the 20th (tied for record high this day) and the minimum for the month of 45°F occurred on the 27th. Precipitation total of 2.65 inches is 149% of normal. The wettest day in the was on the 25th-26th (2.06 inches fell).
